7-317TROUBLESHOOTINGThis section explains problems frequently encountered when using the document filing function. If you experienceany difficulty, refer to the following table. For information on general machine problems, printer problems, faxproblems, and network scanner problems, please see the troubleshooting sections of the appropriate manuals.Problem Check Cause and solutionA saved file hasdisappeared.Was the file called up and then printed bytouching the [PRINT AND DELETE THEDATA] key?A file that is printed using the [PRINT ANDDELETE THE DATA] key is automaticallydeleted after being printed. To print a filewithout deleting it, use the [PRINT ANDSAVE THE DATA] key.A file cannot bedeleted.Is the file's attribute set to [PROTECT]? A file cannot be deleted when its attribute isset to [PROTECT]. Change the attribute to[SHARING] and then delete the file.A file's attributecannot be set to[CONFIDENTIAL].Is the file in the main or custom folder? A file in the Quick File folder cannot be set to[CONFIDENTIAL]. Move the file to adifferent folder or set it to [PROTECT].A file's attributecannot be changedto [PROTECT].Is the file set to [CONFIDENTIAL]? A file cannot be simultaneously set to[CONFIDENTIAL] and [PROTECT]. If set to[CONFIDENTIAL], use [PROPERTYCHANGE] (page 7-21) to change theattribute to [PROTECT].A name in the QuickFile folder is cut off.Was the name programmed in the advancedtransmission settings?If the name was programmed in theadvanced transmission settings before thefile was saved in the Quick File folder, thatname will be used. However, if the name islonger than the maximum name length of theQuick File folder (30 characters), the excesscharacters will be discarded.Resolution settingsare not possible.Was the file saved at low resolution? A saved file cannot be transmitted at aresolution higher than the resolution atwhich it was saved.A file name cannotbe stored orchanged.Have you entered prohibited characters inthe file name?Certain characters (symbols) cannot beused in file names. See "ENTERINGCHARACTERS" (entering numbers andsymbols) on page 7-29.A custom foldername cannot bestored or changed.Have you entered prohibited characters inthe folder name?Certain characters (symbols) cannot beused in folder names. See "ENTERINGCHARACTERS" (entering numbers andsymbols) on page 7-29.The printing speedof a saved file isslow.The file was saved using one of the followingresolution settings:● 200 x 200 dpi resolution.● STANDARD (200 x 100 dpi) or FINE (200x 200 dpi)When a file is saved using one of theresolutions setting at left, the printing speedwill be slower than when other resolutionsettings are used.Black dots appearwhen a file that wassaved with thedocument filingfunction is printed.Was the file saved at other than the followingresolutions?● 600 x 600 dpi● 600 x 600 dpi and HALF TONETo check the resolution of the saved file, touchthe [DETAIL] key in step 5 on page 7-16.This problem can be alleviated by setting theresolution to 600x600dpi when saving a filewith scan save.The problem can be further alleviated byselecting HALF TONE after setting theresolution to 600x600dpi, as light imageswill be printed lightly.
