Tap OK, and then tap OK again to save the configuration.After you create the configuration, you need to set up the HotSyncManager of your Desktop application and the HotSync application ofyour handheld to perform a modem HotSync operation.Network preferences andTCP/IP softwareThe Network Preferences settings enable you to use the TCP/IPsoftware that is included in the handheld operating system. You canuse the TCP/IP software to connect with Internet Service Providers(ISPs) or dial-in (remote access) servers. Because the TCP/IP softwareis a feature of the operating system, you configure all parametersrelating to it from the Preferences application.To use TCP/IP, you must create a configuration in ConnectionPreferences and then create Network Preferences settings.Note: The Connection Preferences screen enables you to defineseveral ways that your handheld can use the modem tocommunicate with remote devices. For example, you cancommunicate with your ISP server, or with your computer ifyou are away on travel. See “Connection preferences”earlier in this chapter for a complete explanation on how tocreate modem configurations.After you configure both the Connection and Network Preferences,you can establish a PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol), SLIP (Serial LineInternet Protocol), or CSLIP (Compressed Serial Line InternetProtocol) connection with your ISP or dial-in server.
