3 – Managing FabricsSecuring a Fabric3-8 59056-03 CA3.2.2User Account SecurityUser account security is the process by which your user account and passwordare authenticated with the list of valid user accounts and passwords. The switchvalidates your account and password when you attempt to add a fabric usingSANsurfer Switch Manager or log in to a switch through Telnet. Your systemadministrator defines accounts, passwords, and authority levels that are stored onthe switch. Refer to ”Managing User Accounts” on page 4-2 for more information.The Admin account possesses Admin authority which grants full access to alltasks of the SANsurfer Switch Manager menu system. The switch validates youruser account and SANsurfer Switch Manager grants access to its menusaccording to your authority level. If you do not have Admin authority, you arelimited to monitoring tasks.3.2.3Security Consistency ChecklistThe Security Consistency Checklist dialog enables you to comparesecurity-related features on switches to check for inconsistencies. Any changesmust be made through the appropriate dialog, such as Network Properties dialog,Switch Properties dialog, or SNMP Properties dialog. To open the SecurityConsistency Checklist dialog, open the Switch menu and select SecurityConsistency Checklist.NOTE: If a user is logged into a switch using SANsurfer Switch Manager orCLI, and an administrator changes user access rights and passwords,existing logins will not be affected by the new settings. Login accessand privileges are only checked for a new login request.
