Familiarize yourself withthese terms and the scanner’s features, and you canput the scanner to work for you right away. Simplydetermine the type of communications you want toreceive, then set the scanner to scan thosecommunications.A frequency, expressed in kHz or MHz, is the tuninglocation of a station. To find active frequencies, youuse the search function or refer to a frequencyreference.Besides searching within a selected frequencyrange, you can also search your scanner's servicebanks. Service banks are preset groups offrequencies categorized by the type of services thatuse those frequencies. For example, many amateurradio frequencies are located in the HAM servicebank.When you search and find a desired frequency, youcan store it into a programmable memory locationcalled a channel. Channels are grouped intochannel-storage banks. The scanner has 10 channel-storage banks and each bank has 20 channels. Youcan scan the channel-storage banks to see if there isactivity on the frequencies stored there.
