4Hotplate BurnersThe drawing by each knob indicates which burner thatknob controls.Push in and turn a knob to the large flame symbol ( )and press the igniter button or light with a match.Adjust the flame height to suit by turning the knob. Onthis cooker the low position is beyond high, not betweenhigh and off. The small flame marks the ‘low position’.Turn the knob towards it after the contents of a pan haveboiled.Make sure flames are under the pans. Using a lid willhelp the contents boil more quickly.Pans and kettles with concave bases or down turnedbase rims should not be used.Simmering aids, such as asbestos or mesh mats, areNOT recommended. They will reduce burnerperformance and could damage the pan supports.Avoid using unstable and misshapen pans that may tilteasily and pans with a very small base diameter e.g. milkpans, single egg poachers. The minimum pan diameterrecommended is 120mm (about 4 3 /4 ").The Wok burners are designed to provide even heat overa large area. They are ideal for large pans and stir frying.For heating smaller pans the smaller burners may bemore efficient.When ignition button knob is pressed in,sparks will be made at every burner, this isnormal.If after lighting, a hotplate burner’s flame goesout, turn it off and leave it for one minute beforerelighting it.You can remove the burner cap and trimrings for cleaning, see pages 18/19.You should wipe the enamel top surface of thecooker around the hotplate burners as soon aspossible after spills occur. Try to wipe them offwhile the enamel is still warm.Avoid using unstable and misshapen pans,which may tilt easily, and pans with a very smallbase diameter, e.g. milk pans, single eggpoachers.The minimum pan diameter recommended is120mm (4 3 / 4"). Smaller pans will be unstable.Pans and kettles with down turned base rimsshould not be used.Note:Use of aluminium pans may cause metallicmarking of the pan supports. This does notaffect the durability of the enamel and may becleaned off with a metal cleaner such as'Brasso'.
