Chapter 5: Virtual KVM Client (VKC) Help243Virtual MediaAll KX III models support virtual media. Virtual media extends KVMcapabilities by enabling target servers to remotely access media from aclient PC and network file servers. With this feature, media mounted on client PCs and network file serversare essentially "mounted virtually" by the target server. The target servercan then read from and write to that media as if it were physicallyconnected to the target server itself. Each KX III comes equipped with virtual media to enable remotemanagement tasks using the widest variety of CD, DVD, USB, audioplayback and record devices, internal and remote drives, and images.Virtual media sessions are secured using 128 or 256 bit AES, or RC4encryption.Prerequisites for Using Virtual MediaKX III Prerequisites For users requiring access to virtual media, the KX III permissionsmust be set to allow access to the relevant ports, as well as virtualmedia access (VM Access port permission) for those ports. Portpermissions are set at the group-level. A USB connection must exist between the device and the targetserver. If you want to use PC-Share, Security Settings must also be enabledin the Security Settings page. Optional You must choose the correct USB profile for the KVM target serveryou are connecting to.Remote PC Certain virtual media options require administrative privileges on theremote PC (for example, drive redirection of complete drives).Note: If you are using Microsoft Vista or Windows 7, disable UserAccount Control or select Run as Administrator when startingInternet Explorer. To do this, click the Start Menu, locate IE,right-click and select Run as Administrator.Target Server KVM target servers must support USB connected drives. USB 2.0 ports are faster and preferred.
