APPENDIX J: T ECHNICAL FAQ S 165Appendix J: Technical FAQsQ UESTION A NSWERWhat are the browsers (andversions) supported?Netscape 7.0 or greater (but not 6.0), Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or higher,or Internet Explorer 6.0 with Java Microsoft VM or SUN JRE 1.4.2or higher. Is the status of the unit limited bythe status of the device orequipment to which it is attached(i.e. Server, router, firewall, loadbalancer, or other network device)? No, because the unit is a totally “out of band” solution that runs onits own dedicated microprocessor. Even if the target devices towhich the Dominion SX is attached are turned off, you will still beable to access the unit. Can I reset the unit without losingmy settings? There are two ways to perform a basic reset without losing youruser-defined settings: (1) Click on the [Reset] button in the leftpanel of the Main Menu screen, or (2) Switch off power from theunit, and then switch the power back on. Using either of these twomethods, the previously established IP address and all other user-defined settings will be preserved.Important: Performing a “soft” reset as described above will log allusers off the unit. Users will be able to access the unit again once theunit’s boot sequence is complete. How do I reset the unit back to itsfactory-default settings? To perform a factory default reset, which will erase all customsettings and re-establish the factory default settings, attach the“factory reset fixture” to the unit’s 9-pin serial port (located on theback of the chassis), turn the unit off, wait a few seconds, turn theunit back on, and allow the unit to complete the factory default resetsequence. This will take about 60 seconds. The factory default resetsequence consists of the following: A solid green light for about 5seconds, then no light for about 15-20 seconds, then another solidgreen light for about 5 seconds and then 3 green flashes (about 1second each). The total time for this sequence is generally about 40seconds. The IP address for the unit will be reset to 192.168.0.192.Important: Performing a “hard” reset as described above will logall users off the unit. Users will not be able to access the unit againuntil the unit is re-configured.For SX4, SX8, and all other models with a RESET switch on therear panel, using a ball-point pen (please do not use a graphitepencil), while the unit is powered ON, push in and hold the switchfor about 30 seconds (or until the blue LED on the front of the unitgoes off), and then release the switch. Only gentle pressure isrequired. The SX unit will detect the RESET switch and reset theunit to factory default. It will take about 60 seconds for the unit toreboot. On these units, a reset to factory defaults can be performedwith the unit powered ON.Does the unit need to be on thesame physical LAN as theclient_host during installation andsetup?Yes, the unit must be on the same physical LAN as the client_hostduring installation and setup. There should be no intermediate IProuters between the unit and the client_host during this stage.Once the physical installation iscomplete and my ping query elicitsa response from the unit, how do Iinitially access the unit and beginthe process to customize the unit?Open a supported network-enabled web browser, type“192.168.0.192” in the address line, and press the <Enter> key. Youwill be presented with the start-up screen for the unit, and promptedthrough the entire set-up process. Once setup is complete, you willlog off the console, and use the IP address you assigned during set-up to re-access the unit.
