You can change the default settings for yourpreferences and needs.To change the fax setup options:1 Press Menu until Fax Setup appears on the top line of the display.2 Press the Scroll buttons until the menu item you want appears andpress Enter.3 Press the Scroll buttons until the desired status appears or enterthe value for the option you have selected, and press Enter.4 If necessary, repeat steps 2 through 3.5 Press Stop/Clear to return to Standby mode.Fax setup optionsOption DescriptionReceiveModeYou can select the default fax receiving mode. Fordetails on receiving faxes in each mode, see page9.3.Ring toAnswerYou can specify the number of times the machinerings before answering an incoming call.Darkness You can select the default contrast mode to fax yourdocuments lighter or darker.• Light works well with dark print.• Normal works well with standard typed or printeddocuments.• Dark works well with light print or faint pencilmarkings.Redial Term Your machine can automatically redial a remote faxmachine if it was busy. You can set an intervalbetween attempts.Redials You can specify the number of redial attempts. If youenter 0, the machine will not redial.MSGConfirmYou can set your machine to print a report showingwhether a transmission was successful, how manypages were sent, and more. The available optionsare On, Off, and On-Err, which prints only when atransmission is not successful.AutoReportThis produces a report with detailed informationabout the previous 50 communications operations,including time and dates. The available options areOn or Off.AutoReductionWhen receiving a fax containing pages as long as orlonger than the paper loaded in the paper tray, themachine can reduce the size of the original to fit thesize of the paper loaded in the machine. Turn on thisfeature if you want to automatically reduce anincoming page.With this feature set to Off, the machine cannotreduce the original to fit onto one page. The originalwill be divided and printed in actual size on two ormore pages.DiscardSizeWhen receiving a fax containing pages as long as orlonger than the paper in your machine, you can setthe machine to discard a specific length from the endof the received fax. The machine will print thereceived fax on one or more sheets of paper, exceptthe data that would have been on the specifieddiscard segment.When the received fax contains pages larger than thepaper in your machine, and Auto Reduction hasbeen turned on, the machine will reduce the fax to fiton the existing paper, and nothing will be discarded.RCV StartCodeThis code allows you to initiate fax reception from anextension phone plugged into the EXT socket on theback of the machine. If you pick up the extensionphone and hear fax tones, enter the code. It is presetto 9 at the factory.DRPDMode1 This mode enables a user to use a single telephoneline to answer several different telephone numbers.In this menu, you can set the machine to recognizewhich ring patterns to answer.
