13.9 < Troubleshooting>Background scatter Background scatter results from bits of tonerrandomly distributed on the printed page.• The paper may be too damp. Try printing witha different batch of papers. Do not openpackages of paper until necessary so that thepaper does not absorb too much moisture.• If background scatter occurs on an envelope,change the printing layout to avoid printingover areas that have overlapping seams onthe reverse side. Printing on seams can causeproblems.• If background scatter covers the entire surfacearea of a printed page, adjust the printresolution through your software application orthe printer properties.Misformedcharacters• If characters are improperly formed andproducing hollow images, the paper stock maybe too slick. Try a different paper. See page5.7.• If characters are improperly formed andproducing a wavy effect, the scanner unit mayneed service. For service, contact a servicerepresentative.Page skew • Ensure that the paper is loaded properly.• Check the paper type and quality.
