13.14 < Troubleshooting>The machine does notscan.• Check if a document is loaded into themachine.• Check if your machine is connected to thecomputer. Make sure if it is connectedproperly if an I/O error is reported whilescanning.• Check if the port is not busy. Sincefunctional components of MFP (printer andscanner) share the same I/O interface(port), the situation of simultaneous accessof different “consumer” application to thesame port is possible. To avoid possibleconflicts, only one of them at a time isallowed to gain control over the device. Theother “consumer” will encounter “devicebusy” response. This can usually happenwhile starting scan procedure, andappropriate message box will be displayed.To identify the source of the problem, youshould open ports configuration and selectthe port assigned to your scanner. port’ssymbol /dev/mfp0 corresponds to LP:0designation displayed in the scanners’options, /dev/mfp1 relates to LP:1 and soon. USB ports start at /dev/mfp4, soscanner on USB:0 relates to /dev/mfp4respectively and so forth sequentially. In theSelected port pane you can see if the portis occupied by some other application. Ifthis is the case, you should wait forcompletion of the current job or shouldpress the Release port button, if you aresure that the present port’s owner is notfunctioning properly.I cannot scan via GimpFront-end.• Check if Gimp Front-end has“Xsane: Device dialog.” on the “Acquire”menu. If not, you should install Xsane plug-in for Gimp on the your computer. You canfind Xsane plug-in package for Gimp onLinux distribution CD or Gimp home page.For the detail information, refer to the Helpfor Linux distribution CD or Gimp Front-endapplication.If you wish to use other kind of scanapplication, refer to the Help for application.Problem Possible cause and solutionsCommon Macintosh problems (SCX-4725FN only )I encounter error“Cannot open portdevice file” whenprinting a document.Please avoid changing the print jobparameters (via LPR GUI, for example) whilea print job is in progress. Known versions ofCUPS server break the print job wheneverprint options are changed and then try torestart the job from the beginning. SinceUnified Linux Driver locks port while printing,the abrupt termination of the driver keeps theport locked and therefore unavailable forsubsequent print jobs. If this situationoccurred, please, try to release the port.Problem Suggested solutionsThe printer does not printPDF file correctly. Someparts of graphics, text orillustrations are missing.Incompatibility between the PDF file andthe Acrobat products:Printing the PDF file as an image maysolve this problem. Turn on Print asImage from the Acrobat printing options.Note: It will take longer to print whenyou print a PDF file as an image.The document hasprinted, but the print jobhas not disappeared fromthe spooler inMac OS 10.3.2.Update your Mac OS to OS 10.3.3. orhigher.Some letters are notdisplayed normallyduring the Cover pageprinting.This problem is caused because MacOS can not create the font during theCover page printing.
