225Conducting Cradle/CableHotSync OperationsThe simplest way to synchronise data is to perform adirect HotSync operation by seating your PDA phone inthe desktop holder and pressing the HotSync button.Performing a Cradle/CableHotSync OperationsThe first time you synchronise your data, you need toenter user information on PalmTM Desktop software.After you enter this information and synchronise withyour PDA phone, the HotSync Manager recognises yourPDA phone and doesn’t ask for this information again.If you are a system administrator preparing several PDAphones for a group of users, you may want to create auser profile. See “Creating a User Profile” on page 222before performing the following steps.To perform a local HotSync operation on a Windowscomputer:1. Connect the USB cable to the desktop holder and thecomputer and then place your PDA phone in the desktopholder.IMPORTANT!You must perform your first HotSync operation with a local,direct connection or with infrared communication, rather thanwith a modem or network.You must make sure the connection accuracy between your PDAphone and desktop. If this connection is not seated correctly,that may cause a data translation failure or your PDA phonedefect. In this case you may reset your PDA phone.
