285Prolonging Battery LifeNote the following considerations for the battery in yourPDA phone:• Under normal conditions your PDA phone battery shouldremain charged when you place it in the desktop holder forjust a few minutes each day. You can conserve your batterylife by doing any of the following:- Reduce the time of the backlight feature. See page 247 formore information.- Change the Auto-off setting that automatically turns thePDA phone off after a period of inactivity. See page 247 formore information.- Minimize accessing the expansion card slot.• If the battery becomes low in the course of normal use, analert appears on the PDA phone screen, describing the lowbattery condition. If this alert appears, perform a HotSyncoperation to back up your data; then leave your PDA phonein the desktop holder or connect the travel charger torecharge the unit. This helps prevent accidental data loss.• If the battery drains to the point that your PDA phone doesnot operate, it stores your data safely for about a week. Inthis case there is enough residual energy in the battery tostore the data, but not enough to turn your PDA phone on. Ifyour PDA phone does not turn on when you press the powerbutton, you should recharge the unit immediately.• If your battery drains and you have the unit in an unchargedstate for an extended period of time, you may lose all yourstored data.• There are no serviceable parts inside your PDA phone, so donot attempt to open the unit.• If you ever dispose of your PDA phone, please dispose of itwithout damaging the environment. Take your PDA phone toyour nearest environmental recycling centre.
