262Connectivity PreferencesConnectivity Preferences enable you to defineconnection configurations that enable your PDA phone tocommunicate with remote devices. You can alsoconfigure the network settings.NetworkYou can use the software that is included in the PDAphone operating system to connect with Internet serviceproviders (ISPs) or dial-in (remote access) servers,using a mobile phone or an optional modem accessory.Your mobile phone must be equipped with either an IRport or a cable that connects to your PDA phone’suniversal connector. You also need an ISP account orcorporate remote access account and a mobile phonecarrier account that supports dial-up connections. Amobile phone carrier account with high-speed wirelessdata network services also can be used.To use the e-mail software included with your PDAphone, you must create a configuration in ConnectionPreferences and then create Network PreferencesSettings. See “Connection” on page 274 for a completeexplanation of how to define Connection configurationsthat enable your PDA phone to communicate withremote devices.After you configure both the Connection and NetworkPreferences, you can establish a PPP (Point-to-PointProtocol) connection with your ISP or dial-in server. Youcan do this either by using menu commands from theNetwork Preferences screen or by using a third-partyapplication.
