Basic Operation 11Basic OperationThis section describes the basic operation of yourradio, including turning the radio on and off,adjusting volume, selecting channels, transmittingcalls and receiving calls.Turning theRadio On andOffRotating the on/off/volume control clockwiseturns on the radio and increases volume. Rotatingthe control counterclockwise decreases volume andturns off the radio.Adjusting theVolume1. Turn the radio on and rotate the on/off/volumecontrol clockwise to about one third of itsmaximum setting. A power-up message mayappear in the control head display.2. Press and hold the monitor key ( ) until themonitor LED flashes ( ). The radio thengives two short beeps.3. Adjust the on/off/volume control, if necessary,and depress the monitor key briefly to return theradio to the quiet state.4. You may need to finally set the volume levelwhen you receive your first call.OperatingModesOnce the power-up sequence is complete, yourradio may enter the mode last used when the radiowas previously turned on. Alternatively, the radiomay be programmed to enter the same mode eachtime it powers up, for example channel selection/entry mode.Selecting aChannel1.
