213 Operating The PrinterPowering On The PrinterWhen you power on the printer, it executes a self-test. The default power-upstate is offline. When the self-test completes and the software has initializedsuccessfully, the status indicator light is off, indicating the printer is offline.When the printer is online, the default emulation type you have installedappears in the upper-right corner of the display. The configuration name orribbon life remaining is shown on the second line.If there is a fault during the self-test, the status indicator flashes and a specificfault message appears on the display (such as “LOAD PAPER”). The alarmalso sounds if it is configured to do so. See “ LCD Message TroubleshootingTable” on page 123 for information on fault messages and solutions.Operating ModesOnline. In online mode, the printer can receive and print data sent from thehost. Pressing the ONLINE key toggles the printer from online to offline mode.The status indicator is lit in online mode.Offline. In offline mode, you can perform operator functions, such as loadingpaper and setting top-of-form. You can also move within the printerconfiguration menus. Pressing the ONLINE key toggles the printer from offlineto online mode. The status indicator is off in offline mode.Fault. In fault mode, a condition exists which must be cleared before printingcan continue. The status indicator flashes, the alarm beeps (if configured tosound), and a descriptive fault message displays.The current operating mode can be selected via control panel keys or canresult from routine operations such as powering on the printer.
