9–SD Card ManagementTASCAM DP-004 81Overview of partitionsAs described in “Partitions and songs” (page 47),SD cards formatted by this unit are divided intopartitions. MTR partitions are for recording datawhile the FAT partition can be accessed with apersonal computer. High-capacity cards can havemultiple MTR partitions. In this case, you can usethe MTR partitions for different songs, for example,or copy songs to a different MTR partitions to savetheir information. The FAT partition is FAT32 formatand can be accessed by a computer connected tothis unit by USB. This FAT partition is used tosave songs and export stereo masters to computers,as well as to allow this unit to import audio filesinto songs, for example. For this reason, two stepsare necessary to copy from a MTR partition anda computer. You can also format an entire card orindividual partition as well as change the divisionsbetween partitions (repartition) as necessary.CAUTIONFormatting and repartition operations cannotbe undone!NOTEThe FAT (File Allocation Table) format is a disk format•that can be read by a computer.This unit can use both SD (512 MB – 2 GB) and SDHC•(4–32 GB) cards.See• “Selecting the active partition” on page 47 forhow to change the active partition.Write-protected cardsSD cards have write-protect (lock) switches.Unprotected ProtectedFiles cannot be recorded or edited on a card if youslide its switch down.Slide the switch down if you want to prevent thecontents of the card from being changed or erased.9–SD Card Management
