MEDIASTUDIO PRO USER GUIDE128Inserting video, audio and image clipsThe easiest way to insert a video, audio or image clip into the Timeline is toclick the appropriate Insert button on the Timeline toolbar. You can alsochoose its corresponding command from the Insert menu or the right-clickpop-up menu. A dialog box opens allowing you to select a file thatMediaStudio Pro supports. Supported formats include MPEG-1, MPEG-2,MPEG-4, DV type 1 & 2 AVI, as well as QuickTime and Flash files. If you choose a video file that contains both video and audio data, the clipsare placed in both the video (Va) and audio tracks (Aa): these clips remainconnected to maintain synchronicity. (You can separate them by clicking theClip: Split command, see page 155.) Clips already in the ProductionLibrary can simply be dragged onto the Timeline. You can also drag-and-drop clips directly from Windows Explorer. You can also insert clips currently displayed inthe Source window to another track in theTimeline. Press [F11] and select from the pop-up menu in which track you want to insert theclip.Note:The files you insert should match theproperties of your video project to ensure the bestpossible output results. When you insert clips, they are placed at theposition of your pointer. How these clips affect any neighboring clips isdetermined by the Ripple Editing mode (see page 167). If you are inRipple Editing mode, you can insert the clip anywhere you like on acompatible track (even over existing clips) and the clip pushes along anyother clips which appear in the same track. If you are not in Ripple Editingmode, you can only insert the clip into an empty clip slot. An empty clipslot starts from the end of one clip and continues to the beginning of thenext. A clip that is inserted into a slot shorter in duration than the clip itselfwill be trimmed to fit the space.
