MEDIASTUDIO PRO USER GUIDE348Converting filesAfter saving a file you may find that you need to change its attributes, particularly if you are planning on mixing it with other files that havedifferent properties. When you convert a file, you can choose to convertdown, reducing quality and file size, or convert up. Converting up, suchas adding an extra channel or increasing the sample size, does not result inan improvement in the sound of the file. This is because the attributes ofan audio file are determined at the time of its creation. To convert a file, click Edit: Convert To. In the dialog box that opens, you can choose to change the sampling rate, channels and sample sizeaccording to your needs. (For more on these see the section on "Creatinga new edit window", page 346.) Once you click OK, the dialog box closesand the waveform is changed accordingly.Viewing waveformsWhen you edit a waveform you may want to see part of it in greater detailor display it in a more compressed format. You can do this in three ways:click View: Zoom In and Zoom Out, by dragging the Zoom slider, or bydragging on the borders of the Global View panel. (The amount you canzoom depends on the size of the edit window, the length of the waveformand the amount of the waveform shown in the window.)Note:In Audio Editor it is possible to zoom down to the sample level. Editing at thislevel however is often impractical as any changes you make may be inaudiblebecause of the sheer number of samples possible. For example, the smallest audiofile still has 11,025 samples per second.A waveform at Fit In Window view
