193Driving and operationIn some cases, faults can be eliminated byswitching off the engine and restarting. Ifthe control light comes on again when theengine is running, contact a workshop toeliminate the cause of the fault.If it illuminates briefly, but does not recur, itis of no significance.If A illuminates, this may also mean waterin the diesel fuel filter in the engines1)Z 19 DTL, Z 19 DT and Z 19 DTH. Wherenecessary, have the fuel filter inspected bya workshop for any residual water.If it flashes after the ignition is switchedon, there is a fault in the immobilisersystem. The engine cannot be started.See page 27.Exhaust gasesDuring the first drive smoke may developbecause of wax and oil evaporating on theexhaust system. Park the vehicle in theopen for a while after the first drive andavoid inhaling the fumes.1) Sales designation – see page 2819 WarningEngine exhaust gases contain poisonouscarbon monoxide, which is colourless andodourless and could be fatal if inhaled.If exhaust gases penetrate the vehicleinterior, open a window and contact aworkshop.Avoid driving with an open luggagecompartment. Otherwise, exhaust gasescould penetrate the interior.
