PREPARING FOR INSTALLATIONXEROX DOCUPRINT NETWORK PRINTER SERIES INSTALLATION PLANNING GUIDE FOR MODEL 92C NPS 4-9Xerox client software Indicate whether you have Xerox client software installed, and aresupporting Xerox clients on the network.lpr and lpd Indicate whether to enable client use of lpr and lpd job submissionand status commands.UNIX command tool Indicate whether to have a UNIX command tool available for use inthe background menu.Retry count Determine whether the DocuPrint NPS system supports a printproduction environment, or whether the system remains unattended.Once you determine the environment the DocuPrint NPS supports, you must decide the number of attempts the system makes to print ajob before a sequencer restart causes the job to be held forintervention.• If the DocuPrint NPS supports a print production environment, you may want to specify a large number or zero as the numberof attempts the system makes to retry a print job. (Zeroindicates an infinite number of retries.)• If the DocuPrint NPS is unattended, you may want to specifyonly 1 or 2 retries to print a job.Novell network informationThe Novell network information you provide to your servicerepresentative is based on whether you configure the DocuPrint as aprint server or a remote printer. Refer to this chapter and your Novellnetwork administrator for assistance, if necessary.DocuPrint as a print server (PSERVER)Provide the following information to the service representative if youconfigure DocuPrint NPS as a print server on the Novell network (forfurther information, refer to the “Installation process” section in the“Installation” chapter of this guide):• Novell file server name—indicates the name of the file serverthat the DocuPrint NPS services. The file server must have theappropriate print server definition and the queue to be serviced.• Print server name—indicates the name used by the DocuPrintNPS print server. A print server definition with this name mustexist on the file server that the DocuPrint NPS services. Asingle printer (type Remote Other/Unknown) must be definedfor this print server and the queue (refer to the queue namebelow).• Password for the print server—refers to a password you mayhave added in the print server definition (using PCONSOLE). Itis not necessary to add a password to a print server, and thereis no default password.• Queue name to service—refers to the name of the queue fromwhich the DocuPrint print server accepts jobs. The queue mustbe defined on the file server that the DocuPrint NPS services. The single printer that must be defined for the print server (asstated above) must also be defined to service the specifiedqueue.
