PrinterMap User Guide 10Running PrinterMap for the First TimeBefore PrinterMap can manage network printers, PrinterMap configuration anddiscovery processes must occur. PrinterMap is designed to assist in this processwhen it is first started. This section describes how PrinterMap assists in thisprocess and where to look for additional information. By default, the installprogram starts the PrinterMap user interface (Topology window). SelectingPrinterMap from the Xerox PrinterMap program group is another way to getstarted.The first time the PrinterMap Topology window is started a welcome screen isdisplayed.Figure 2 Welcome to PrinterMap windowThe welcome screen is displayed every time PrinterMap is started until discoverparameters are configured or the “Continue to show this window” box isunchecked. Select the OK button to continue. The PrinterMap Configurationwindow is displayed.At minimum, PrinterMap requires the user to define discover parameters. Thediscover parameters specify how PrinterMap discovers network printers. Afterclosing the Welcome screen, PrinterMap displays the PrinterMap configurationwindow. By default, the Discover panel is shown. PrinterMap automatically fillsin as many parameters on the Discover panel as possible. IP parameters thatPrinterMap supplies include the machine’s IP address, subnet mask and defaultgateway. PrinterMap also fills in the machine’s Novell preferred server, ifapplicable. Refer to “Discover Configuration” in Chapter 3 for more informationon configuring PrinterMap’s discover process.Other PrinterMap configuration parameters may be specified at this time.
