VX-3R O PERATING M ANUAL68The Channel Counter allows measuring of the frequency of a nearby transmitter, withoutknowing that frequency in advance. The frequency can be measured by bringing the VX-3R close to the transceiver which is transmitting. The VX-3R performs a high-speed search within a ±5 MHz range from the frequencydisplayed on the LCD. When the strongest signal in that range is identified, the VX-3Rdisplays the frequency of that (strongest) signal, and writes it into the special “ChannelCounter” memory.Note: This Channel Counter is designed to provide an indication of the operating fre-quency of the incoming signal, one that is close enough to allow the user, thereafter, to tuneprecisely to the other station’s frequency. This feature is not, however, designed to providea precise determination of the other station’s frequency.1. Set the radio to the VFO mode in the predicted frequency rangefor the transmitter to be measured.2. Bring the VX-3R into close proximity to the transmitter to bemeasured.3. Rotate the DIAL, while pressing and holding in the [MODE]key, to select the “CH CNTCH CNTCH CNTCH CNTCH CNT (Channel Counter) mode.”Note: Do not forget to pull the DIAL knob to rotate the DIALknob.4. Release the [MODE] key to begin the Channel Counter; the fre-quency of the nearby station will be displayed. When the chan-nel counter is active, a 50 dB receiver front-end attenuator willbe engaged. Therefore, only stations in close proximity may havetheir frequencies measured using this feature.5. If it isn’t possible to determine the signal’s frequency, the trans-ceiver will return to the frequency on which you were operatingwhen you started Channel Counter operation.6. When you are finished, just press the [MODE] key. The radio will exit from ChannelCounter operation.CHANNEL COUNTER OPERATION
