VX-3R O PERATING M ANUAL82The VX-3R can be used to access a “node” (repeater or base station) which is tied into theVertex Standard WIRES™ (Wide-Coverage Internet Repeater Enhancement System) net-work, operating in the “SRG” (Sister Radio Group) mode. Details may be found at theWIRES-II Web site: http://www.vxstd.com/en/wiresinfo-en/. This feature may also be usedto access other systems, as described below.SRG (“SISTER R ADIO GROUP ”) MODE1. Press the [ ] key to activate the Internet Connection feature.The “ ” icon will appear in the upper right corner of the dis-play.2. Rotate the DIAL knob, while pressing and holding in the [ ]key, to select the access number (“DTMF 0DTMF 0DTMF 0DTMF 0DTMF 0” - “DTMF 9DTMF 9DTMF 9DTMF 9DTMF 9”, “DTMF ADTMF ADTMF ADTMF ADTMF A”, “DTMF BDTMF BDTMF BDTMF BDTMF B”,“DTMF CDTMF CDTMF CDTMF CDTMF C”, “DTMF DDTMF DDTMF DDTMF DDTMF D”, “DTMF EDTMF EDTMF EDTMF EDTMF E (¼)”, “DTMF FDTMF FDTMF FDTMF FDTMF F (#)”) corresponding to the WIRES™repeater to which you wish to establish an Internet link (ask yourrepeater owner/operator if you don’t know the access numbers inthe network). Now press the PTT switch to exit from the selec-tion mode.Note: Do not forget to pull the DIAL knob to rotate the DIAL knob.3. With the Internet Connection feature activated (as in step 1 above), the VX-3R willgenerate a brief (0.1 second) DTMF tone according to your selection in step 2. ThisDTMF tone is sent at the beginning of every transmission to establish or maintain thelink to the remote WIRES™ repeater operating in the SRG mode.4. To disable the Internet Connection feature, press the [ ] key again (The “ ” icondisappear from the display.If other users report that you always have a DTMF “beep” at the beginningof each transmission, and you are not operating in conjunction with Internetaccess, disable this function via step 4 above.I NTERNET CONNECTION FEATURE
