CAMSHAFTS5-13EAS23850CHECKING THE CAMSHAFTS1. Check:• Camshaft lobesBlue discoloration/pitting/scratches →Replace the camshaft.2. Measure:• Camshaft lobe dimensions “a” and “b”Out of specification → Replace the cam-shaft.3. Measure:• Camshaft runoutOut of specification → Replace.4. Measure:• Camshaft-journal-to-camshaft-cap clear-anceOut of specification → Measure the cam-shaft journal diameter.▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼a. Install the camshaft into the cylinder head(without the dowel pins and camshaftcaps).b. Position strip of Plastigauge® “1” onto thecamshaft journal as shown.c. Install the dowel pins and camshaft caps.NOTE:• Tighten the camshaft cap bolts in stages andin a crisscross pattern, working from theinner caps out.• Do not turn the camshaft when measuringthe camshaft journal-to-camshaft cap clear-ance with the Plastigauge®.d.
