Electriccurrent to the gauges and indicators is shut off.You can insert and remove the key in thisposition.ON (Figure 10, (2)) - This is the position the keywill be in when the engine is running. When theengine is not running, use this position toenergize the gauges, indicators, electric fuelpump and auxiliary devices.START (Figure 10, (3)) - Turn the key to thisposition to start the engine. As soon as theengine starts, release the key and it willautomatically return to the ON position. Some keyswitches may be equipped with a feature thatprevents you from turning the key to the STARTposition while the engine is running. You cannotturn the key to the START position without firstreturning the key to the OFF position.HEAT (Figure 10, (4)) - You must turn the key tothe HEAT position to activate the inlet air heater.The indicator will flash for several seconds whenyou turn the key to HEAT. You can turn the key toSTART when the indicator goes out.Glow PlugsGlow plugs are installed in the cylinder head swirlchambers to help make the engine easy to startin cold temperatures. During the engine startingsequence, the glow plugs are activated forseveral seconds. After the preheat / heat indicatorgoes out, the engine can be started.Inlet Air HeaterFigure 11The inlet air heater (Figure 11, (1)) is located onthe intake manifold. Heated inlet air helps theengine to start easier in cold weather. During theengine starting sequence the inlet air heater isactivated for several seconds. After the pre-heat /heat indicator goes out, the engine can bestarted. The inlet air heater is standardequipment with every engine.CAUTION0000008enFor maximum engine life, Yanmarrecommends that when shutting theengine down, you allow the engine toidle, without load, for 5 minutes. Thiswill allow the engine components thatoperate at high temperatures, such asthe turbocharger (if equipped) andexhaust system, to cool slightly beforethe engine itself is shut down.CAUTION0000007enNEVER hold the key in the STARTposition for longer than 15 seconds orthe starter motor will overheat.(1)0000027A
