ENGINE OPERATIONTNV Operation Manual 573. Check for any fuel, engine coolant or engineoil leaks. If any leaks are found shut down theengine and have the necessary repairsperformed.4. Check for abnormal sounds or vibration. Insome applications the engine and itsmounting may start to resonate and causeunusual vibrations at certain engine speeds.Avoid running the engine at these speeds. Ifthe abnormal sounds or vibration cannot beresolved, shut down the engine and have thenecessary repairs performed. Contact yourauthorized Yanmar industrial engine dealer ordistributor.5. Check for white or black smoke from theexhaust system. A small amount of whiteexhaust smoke is normal on start-up of a coldengine. Black exhaust smoke could mean theengine is overloaded or is being over-fueled.If either of these conditions persists, contactyour authorized Yanmar industrial enginedealer or distributor.6. Check the fuel level during operation. If thefuel level runs low, stop the engine and refuel.ADJUST ENGINE SPEEDUse the engine speed control to adjust the enginespeed for the task that will be performed.A WARNING0000008enHIGH PRESSURE HAZARD!• Avoid skin contact with high pressurediesel fuel spray caused by a fuelsystem leak such as a broken fuelinjection line. High pressure fuel canpenetrate your skin and result inserious injury. If you are exposed tohigh pressure fuel spray obtainprompt medical treatment.• NEVER check for a fuel leak with yourhands. ALWAYS use a piece of woodor cardboard. Have your authorizedYanmar industrial engine dealer ordistributor repair the damage.• Failure to comply could result in deathor serious injury.CAUTION0000011enNew Engine Break In:• On the initial engine start-up, allow theengine to idle for approximately 15minutes while you check for properengine oil pressure, diesel fuel leaks,engine oil leaks, coolant leaks, and forproper operation of the indicatorsand / or gauges.• During the first hour of operation, varythe engine speed and load on theengine. Short periods of maximumengine speed and load are desirable.Avoid prolonged operation atminimum or maximum engine speedsand loads for the next 4 to 5 hours.• During the break-in period, carefullyobserve the engine oil pressure andengine temperature.• During the break-in period, check theengine oil and coolant levelsfrequently.
