PERIODIC MAINTENANCETNV DI Service Manual 5-23Periodic Maintenance ProceduresAfter you complete the initial 50 hour maintenanceprocedures, perform the following procedures every50 hours thereafter.• Drain Fuel Filter / Water Separator• Check BatteryDrain Fuel Filter / Water SeparatorDrain the fuel filter / water separator wheneverthere are contaminants, such as water, collected inthe bottom of the cup. NEVER wait until thescheduled periodic maintenance if contaminantsare discovered.Every 50 Hours of OperationA DANGERFIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD!• Diesel fuel is flammable and explosiveunder certain conditions.• When you remove any fuel systemcomponent to perform maintenance(such as changing the fuel filter) placean approved container under theopening to catch the fuel.• NEVER use a shop rag to catch thefuel. Vapors from the rag areflammable and explosive.• Wipe up any spills immediately.• Wear eye protection. The fuel systemis under pressure and fuel could sprayout when you remove any fuel systemcomponent.• Failure to comply will result in death orserious injury.0000009enCAUTIONIf the fuel filter / water separator ispositioned higher than the fuel level inthe fuel tank, water may not drip outwhen the fuel filter / water separatordrain cock is opened. If this happens,turn the air vent screw on the top of thefuel filter / water separator 2-3 turnscounterclockwise.Be sure to tighten the air vent screwafter the water has drained out.0000025enCAUTION• ALWAYS be environmentallyresponsible.• Follow the guidelines of the EPA orother governmental agencies for theproper disposal of hazardousmaterials such as engine oil, dieselfuel and engine coolant. Consult thelocal authorities or reclamation facility.• NEVER dispose of hazardousmaterials irresponsibly by dumpingthem into a sewer, on the ground, orinto ground water or waterways.• Failure to follow these procedures mayseriously harm the environment.0000013en
