FUEL SYSTEMTNV DI Service Manual 7-31Fuel Injectors3. Note the reading on the dial indicator(Figure 7-43, (1)). If the reading is less than2.5 mm (0.098 in.), the fuel injection timing is“retarded.” If the dial indicator reading is greaterthan 2.5 mm (0.098 in.), the fuel injection timingis “advanced.”Figure 7-43Note: Some model engines require the intakemanifold and fuel injection pumpinsulator be removed to access the innerfuel injection pump retaining nuts.4. Loosen the nuts fastening the fuel injectionpump to the gear case or front plate. Loosenthe rear bracket(s) on the fuel injection pump.Note: Loosening the high-pressure injectionline nuts on the fuel injection pump maymake rotating the pump easier.5. Rotate the fuel injection pump until the dialindicator reads 2.5 mm (0.098 in.).6. To “advance” the injection timing, rotate the topof the fuel injection pump away from the engine.7. To “retard” the injection timing, rotate the top ofthe fuel injection pump toward the engine.8. When the dial indicator reads 2.5 mm(0.098 in.) of pump plunger lift and the targettiming mark on the flywheel aligns with thereference mark on the flywheel housing orengine back plate, the injection timing iscorrect.9. Tighten the fuel injection pump mounting nutsand rear bracket(s).10. Remove the dial indicator and adapter. Replacethe plug in the pump plunger opening andtighten it to specification. If removed, install theintake manifold and pump insulator. Tighten thehigh-pressure injection line nuts tospecification. Open the fuel supply valve, remove the clamp from the fuel return line andprime the fuel system. Operate the engine andcheck it for leaks.FUEL INJECTORSRemoval of Fuel Injectors2-Valve Cylinder Head1. Close any fuel valves in the fuel supply line.2. Remove the high-pressure fuel injection linesas an assembly (Figure 7-44, (1)).Figure 7-440002069(1)(1)0000154A
