PERIODIC MAINTENANCETNV DI Service Manual 5-31Periodic Maintenance ProceduresPerform the following maintenance every 500 hoursof operation.• Replace Air Cleaner Element• Replace Fuel Filter• Clean Fuel Filter / Water SeparatorReplace Air Cleaner ElementReplace the air cleaner element (Figure 5-12, (2))every 500 hours even if it is not damaged or dirty.When replacing the element, clean the inside of theair cleaner case (Figure 5-12, (4)).If the air cleaner is equipped with a double element,only remove and replace the inner element(Figure 5-13, (1)) if the engine lacks power or thedust indicator actuates (if equipped). This is inaddition to replacing the outer element.Replace Fuel FilterEvery 500 Hours of OperationCAUTIONThe maximum air intake restriction, interms of differential pressuremeasurement, must not exceed 0.90 psi(6.23 kPa; 635 mmAq). Clean or replacethe air cleaner element if the air intakerestriction exceeds the abovementioned value.0000046enA DANGERFIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD!• Diesel fuel is flammable and explosiveunder certain conditions.• When you remove any fuel systemcomponent to perform maintenance(such as changing the fuel filter) placean approved container under theopening to catch the fuel.• NEVER use a shop rag to catch thefuel. Vapors from the rag areflammable and explosive.• Wipe up any spills immediately.• Wear eye protection. The fuel systemis under pressure and fuel could sprayout when you remove any fuel systemcomponent.• Failure to comply will result in death orserious injury.0000009enCAUTIONFor maximum engine life, Yanmarrecommends that when shutting theengine down, you allow the engine toidle, without load, for five minutes.
