FUEL SYSTEM7-30 TNV DI Service ManualChecking and Adjusting Fuel Injection TimingFigure 7-4110. Rotate the crankshaft counter-clockwise untilthe dial indicator shows that the injection pumpplunger is at the bottom of its stroke. Rock thecrankshaft back and forth slightly to confirm apoint where the dial indicator shows nomovement. Zero the dial indicator.11. Slowly rotate the crankshaft clockwise until thedial indicator shows a pump plunger lift of2.5 mm (0.098 in.).12. Check the position of the flywheel target timingmark (previously determined) (Figure 7-41, (1))in relation to the timing reference mark(Figure 7-41, (2)) on the flywheel housing orengine back plate. If the two marks are aligned, the fuel injection timing is correct. If the marksdo not align, the fuel injection timing must beadjusted. See Adjusting Fuel Injection Timingon page 7-30.13. If the injection timing is correct, remove the dialindicator and adapter. Replace the pumpplunger plug and its copper gasket and tightento specifications. Replace the flywheelinspection port cover. Open the fuel supplyvalve and remove the clamp from the fuelsupply hose and the fuel return hose.14. Prime the fuel system. Operate the engine andcheck for leaks.Adjusting Fuel Injection TimingIf the timing marks did not align when performingthe Checking Fuel Injection Timing on page 7-27,the following steps must be performed to properlytime the engine.1. Leave the dial indicator installed in the fuelinjection pump. Do not disturb the reading onthe dial indicator.2. Rotate the flywheel until the target timing mark(Figure 7-42, (1)) and the timing referencemark (Figure 7-42, (2)) on the flywheel housingor back plate are aligned.IMPORTANTDo not rotate the crankshaft during theremainder of this procedure.Figure 7-420002066(2)(1)0002142(2)(1)0002066(2)(1)
