54 C HAPTER 4: C ONFIGURING THE SWITCH F ROM T HE WEB I NTERFACE■ Status – Enables and disables spanning tree for theport.■ Edged Port – Enables and disables edged port forthe port.■ Link Type – Choose between Point-to-Point, Shared,or Auto for the link type.■ Path Cost – The path cost is used to determine thebest path between devices. The path cost method isused to determine the range of values that can beassigned to each interface.■ Port Priority – Used in selecting the root device, rootport, and designated port. The device with thehighest priority becomes the STA root device. However, if all devices have the same priority, thedevice with the lowest MAC address will thenbecome the root device. If you modify any of these settings, click Apply to saveyour changes.Figure 42 Spanning Tree Port Setup ScreenIGMP Snooping & QueryThis switch uses IGMP (Internet Group ManagementProtocol) to query for any attached hosts that want toreceive a specific multicast service. It identifies the portscontaining hosts requesting to join the service andsends data out to those ports only. It then propagatesthe service request up to any neighboring multicastswitch/router to ensure that it will continue to receivethe multicast service. This procedure is called multicastfiltering. The purpose of IP multicast filtering is to optimize aswitched network’s performance, so multicast packetswill only be forwarded to those ports containingmulticast group hosts or multicast routers/switches,instead of flooding traffic to all ports in the subnet(VLAN).Choose Enabled or Disabled from the IGMP SnoopingMode drop down menu.Figure 43 IGMP Snooping & Query Setup Screen
