5 TROUBLESHOOTINGThis chapter lists some issues that you may encounterwhile installing, using, and managing the Switch, withsuggested courses of corrective action to take.If you encounter an issue that is not listed here and youcannot solve it, check the 3Com Knowledgebase athttp://knowledgebase.3com.com beforecontacting your local technical support representative.For more information on how to obtain support foryour Switch, refer to Appendix A.Resetting to Factory DefaultsIf the Switch does not operate normally or if the firm-ware becomes corrupted, you can reset the Switch tofactory defaults.Connect to the console interface, as detailed elsewherein this user guide.During the power up sequence after the Power On SelfTest has completed, the following message will be dis-played:Press Ctrl+C within 5 seconds to get intoFailSafe modeDo as instructed and wait for the remainder of theswitch initialization to complete.You will then be presented with 4 options:■ Initialize■ Password■ Reboot■ UpgradeSelecting Initialize will delete all the stored configura-tion information, including IP address modes and pass-words.Selecting Password will delete all stored passwords. Thedefault user name will now be admin with no pass-word.Selecting Reboot will restart the Switch without makingany changesSelecting Upgrade will initiate a firmware download viaTFTP. Follow the instructions provided with your TFTPserver to upgrade the firmware using this interface.CAUTION: Resetting the Switch to factory defaultserases all your settings. You will need to reconfigure theSwitch after you reset it.
