4 LOGGING IN U SING M ODEMIntroduction The administrator can log in to the console port of a remote switch using amodem through PSTN (public switched telephone network) if the remote switch isconnected to the PSTN through a modem to configure and maintain the switchremotely. When a network operates improperly or is inaccessible, you can log in tothe switches in the network in this way to configure these switches, to query logsand warning messages, and to locate problems.To log in to a switch in this way, you need to configure the terminal and the switchproperly, as listed in the following table.Configuration on theAdministrator SideThe PC can communicate with the modem connected to it. The modem is properlyconnected to PSTN.
