128 Maintenance and hardware diagnosticsCapacitorsThe drive intermediate DC circuit employs several electrolytic capacitors. Theirlifespan depends on the operating time of the drive, loading and ambienttemperature. Capacitor life can be prolonged by lowering the ambient temperature.Capacitor failure is usually followed by damage to the drive and an input cable fusefailure, or a fault trip. Contact the manufacturer if capacitor failure is suspected.Replacements are available from the manufacturer. Do not use other than specifiedspare parts. Reforming the capacitorsThe capacitors must be reformed if the drive has not been powered (either in storageor unused) for a year or more. See section Type designation label on page 35 for howto find out the manufacturing date from the serial number. For information on reforming the capacitors, see Converter module capacitorreforming instructions (3BFE64059629 [English]), available on the Internet (go tohttp://www.abb.com and enter the code in the Search field).
