61186003L1-1D 7-61DLP-706Connect Low-Speed CablingINTRODUCTIONThis procedure provides step-by-step instructions to connect the low-speed (T1/E1 or VT/Port) cabling to the MX2820 shelf. The FutureBus connectors on the backplane of theMX2820 shelf provide the physical interface to the network. These connectors provide theTransmit pairs and Receive pairs for the circuits.PREREQUISITE PROCEDURESObtain all necessary local instructions before proceeding with the MX2820 shelf instal-lation.The instructions for routing and connecting the low-speed cabling from the MX2820backplane to the network should be performed according to Central Office (CO) StandardOperating Procedures (SOP).The MX2820 shelf should be mounted in its permanent location in the CO before connectingthe cabling.CAUTIONDSX-1, DS3, STS-1, and 10/Base-T Ethernet circuits from theMX2820 are not to be connected directly to outside plant facilities.TOOLS REQUIRED• Straight-slot screwdriver• Wire strippers• Wire-wrap toolWARNINGTo prevent electrical shock, do not install equipment in a wet loca-tion or during a lightning storm.
