Chapter 6: Modifying Your Direct Attached Storage ● 66Optimizing Logical Drive PerformanceTo ensure optimal performance of the logical drives in your storage space, you can select aperformance mode to improve I/O throughput based on the needs of your application. (Thisfeature is not supported on all controllers.) The following application-specific performancemodes are supported by Adaptec Storage Manager. To select a performance mode for the logical drives on a controller:1 In the Enterprise View, select the controller you want.2 In the menu bar, select Actions, click Change performance mode, then select anapplication type.3 Shutdown Adaptec Storage Manager and reboot the system.Note: You must reboot the system before the performance mode setting takes effect.Performance Mode Performance Criteria Best PerformanceDynamic (default) ● Automatically adjustscriteria based oncontroller usage, RAIDlevel, and disk drivetype—Online TransactionProcess (OLTP)/Database—a system thatfacilitates and managestransaction-orientedapplications, such asdata entry and retrievalapplications.● 100% Random● 60%--80% Read● 20%--40% Write● 8Kb BlocksSAS:● R0 Sequential writes (all request sizes)● R0 File server and Web server● R5 Sequential writes (all request sizes)● R5 Web server● R6 Web server● R10 Sequential writes● R10 Web serverSATA:● R0 Sequential reads (all request sizes)● R0 Sequential writes (all request sizes)● R0 File/print server● R5 Sequential writes (256Kb request size)● R5 Random writes● R6 Sequential writes (all request sizes)● R10 Sequential writes (all request sizes)● R10 Workstation:
