Overheated Engine ProtectionOperating ModeIf an overheated engine condition exists and themessage ENGINE OVERHEATED STOP ENGINEis displayed, an overheat protection mode whichalternates firing groups of cylinders helps preventengine damage. In this mode, you will notice a loss inpower and engine performance. This operating modeallows your vehicle to be driven to a safe place in anemergency. Driving extended miles (km) and/or towinga trailer in the overheat protection mode should beavoided.Notice: After driving in the overheated engineprotection operating mode, to avoid engine damage,allow the engine to cool before attempting anyrepair. The engine oil will be severely degraded.Repair the cause of coolant loss, change the oiland reset the oil life system. See Engine Oil onpage 6‑15.Power Steering FluidThe power steering fluidreservoir is located next tothe underhood fuse blockon the passenger side ofthe vehicle. See EngineCompartment Overviewon page 6‑14 for moreinformation on location.When to Check Power Steering FluidIt is not necessary to regularly check power steeringfluid unless you suspect there is a leak in the system oryou hear an unusual noise. A fluid loss in this systemcould indicate a problem. Have the system inspectedand repaired.6-32
