Chapter 13 Troubleshooting 13-3TroubleshootingClearing JamsJams in the ADFWhen a document jams or misfeeds in the ADF, the LCD displays CHECK DOCUMENT.Follow this procedure to clear the document jam:nYou do not need to unplug the unit when clearing document jams.1 Press Stop.2 Open the operation panel partially by gentlypulling it towards you.• It only opens slightly.• Do not try to pull the document out withoutopening the operation panel since you may tear orsmudge the document.3 While holding the operation panel open,remove the document.• Pull it gently in either direction.• If a multipage document is loaded, remove theentire document from the ADF.nIf the paper does not pull out easily, do notforce it. Contact your local authorised Canondealer or the Canon help line.4 When you are finished, close the operationpanel by pressing it down from the centre.• Be sure to close the operation panel until it locksinto place, or the unit will not function properly.5 Press Resume and start the operation again.
