6-6 Scanning Chapter 6Defining the Scan OptionsWhen scanning an image, you define the following options on the Scannerdialog box.❏ Scan ModeThis option enables you to specify the type of image you are scanning.The scan mode determines a black and white or grayscale image, aswell as the resolution in dots per inch (dpi). You choose the optionthat provides the appropriate level of clarity for your image. Generally,a higher resolution provides better image quality.❏ BrightnessThis option enables you to lighten or darken the brightness of yourscanned image. The option provides another method for improvingthe quality of your scanned image.❏ ContrastThis options enables you to change the level of contrast in yourscanned image.❏ View After ScanIf selected, this option displays the scanned image automatically inthe Desktop Manager Document Viewer. In the Document Viewer, youcan review the image, add annotations, or export the document to usewith another application. If you do not select this option, you canopen the document later when you are ready to view it in theDocument Viewer.When scanning an image, you review or define the following options onthe Scanner Advanced Settings dialog box.❏ Image ModeThis option enables you to select whether you want a black and whiteor grayscale image.If you are scanning the image directly into the Desktop Manager, youmay prefer to produce an enhanced image. If you are scanning theimage into a Windows graphic application, you may prefer to producea standard raw image, subsequently enhancing the image in yourgraphics application.
