Protocol Settings 3-3Using a TCP/IP Network (Windows/ UNIX/Macintosh)3Protocol SettingsYou can specify the protocol settings for the machine using any of the following:• Control panel• NetSpot (Utility software provided with the machine)• Web browser (Remote UI)IMPORTANT• When configuring the protocol settings for the first time, use the control panel of thismachine or NetSpot. After configuring protocol settings, you can change the content byusing a web browser (Remote UI).• With a machine other than the imageRUNNER 5000i, you can retain the security bysetting the range of IP addresses of computers that can obtain access to the machine.Once you set the range of IP addresses of computers from which data (print job/I-fax)can be sent to the machine, the machine rejects data sent from computers of which theIP addresses are not allowed. Once you set the range of IP addresses of computers onwhich items for the machine can be set or browsed, it is not possible to use a webbrowser (Remote UI) on computers of which the IP addresses are not allowed; utilitysoftware on the computers cannot be used to set or browse detailed informationconcerning the machine. See step 21 in “TCP/IP Settings,” on p. 3-4.• Some items cannot be set using NetSpot. For details about items that can be set withNetSpot, see “Network Setting Items,” on p. 9-3.NOTE• For instructions on entering settings using NetSpot, see “Chapter 7 Using the Networkand Device Settings with NetSpot.”• For instruction on entering settings using a web browser (Remote UI), see “Chapter 2Functions of the Remote UI” in the Remote UI Guide.Settings from the Control PanelIMPORTANT• Settings specified from the control panel become effective after the machine is restartedafter the procedure.• For information on entering characters using the touch panel display, see “Chapter 1Before You Start Using This Machine” in the Reference Guide.
