Setting Up a Computer for Printing (Windows/UNIX) 3-27Using a TCP/IP Network (Windows/ UNIX/Macintosh)3Setting Up a Computer for Printing (Windows/UNIX)After you have completed the protocol settings for printing with the machine, youare ready to set up each of the computers for printing. Connecting to a TCP/IP NetworkAll computers that use the printer must have TCP/IP client software installed and must beenabled for TCP/IP network use. For details, see the manuals provided with the operatingsystem. Installing the Printer Driver and Specifying the Printer Destination SettingTo print from a computer, you must install a printer driver and specify a setting for theprinter destination. The printer destination setting differs depending on the printapplication used for printing. Use the following information as a guide to determine theprint application you are using, and then perform the necessary operations.• LPDThis is the print application generally used with TCP/IP. See the following to install theprinter driver and to specify the printer destination setting.“Printer Connection Method (LPD/Raw),” on p. 3-28• RawThis is a print application used with Windows 2000/XP. It can print at higher speeds thanLPD. See the following to install the printer driver and to specify the printer destinationsetting.“Printer Connection Method (LPD/Raw),” on p. 3-28• IPPThis is a print application that can be used with Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP. It uses thehttp protocol to print using Internet/intranet connections. See the following to install theprinter driver and specify the printer destination setting.“Printer Connection Method (IPP),” on p. 3-37• SMBThis is a print application that can be used with NetBIOS network. See “Chapter 5 Using aNetBIOS Network (Windows).”IMPORTANT• If the settings for [RX/Print Range] of [IP Address Range Settings] do not permit the IPaddress of a computer in which a printer driver is installed, you cannot print from thecomputer. (See step 21 in “TCP/IP Settings,” on p. 3-4.)• When printing with IPP, the Pause Printing and Cancel All Documents settings on thePrinter menu in the Windows print queue cannot be used. (To view the print queue, usethe [Start] Menu, point to [Settings], click [Printers], and then double-click the icon of themachine.)
