Page 14 I.B. 70A2580H02Effective November 20124-8.2 OPERATION CHECK PERFORMANCEMove the VCP-Wind circuit breaker to the TEST positionfollowing the procedure described in Paragraph 4-8.1. Assoon as control power becomes available, the motor willcharge the closing springs with this condition indicated bya Spring Charged/Discharged Indicator on the front of thecircuit breaker (Figure 3-4). In addition, the status of themain contacts, open or closed, is indicated on the front ofthe circuit breaker.Using the close and open buttons on the front of thecircuit breaker, close and trip the circuit breaker severaltimes to verify the closing and tripping operations.Conclude the check by opening the circuit breaker.4-9 BREAKER/STRUCTURE INTERFACINGType VCP-Wind Vacuum Circuit Breakers are suppliedwith a series of interlocks to insure safe and properinterfacing between the circuit breaker and a compatiblestructure compartment. The specific interlocks aredescribed in the next paragraph to provide the properfamiliarization. Once the interlocks are reviewed, aninterfacing check can be performed as described inParagraph 4-9.2.4-9.1 INTERFACE INTERLOCKSEach circuit breaker is supplied with the following inter-locks to insure safe and proper operation.Code PinsCode pins are mounted at the bottom of the circuitbreaker to prevent the insertion of a circuit breaker into astructure of higher power rating. A set of code pins on thecircuit breaker and a corresponding set in thecompartment form this interlock. See Tables 7.2 through7.5 for MiniMod Code Pin locations.NOTICECode Pins do not block out control voltage orscheme incompatibility.4-9.2 DRAWOUT BREAKER INTERFACINGCHECKKeep in mind that an interfacing check will be madewith a compatible structure. As such, the instructionsprovided with the assembly will suggest otherinterfacing conditions that should be observed and/orchecked, such as primary shutter operation,MOC/TOC operation and levering handle insertion. Acomplete, coordinated inter-face check, therefore, willbe a blend of the circuit breaker instructions andthose provided with the structural assembly. Togetherall required standards are met and the ultimate insafety is achieved.Reference the procedures outlined in Paragraph 4-8.1 to complete the following interface checks. When the secondary contacts are engaged in theTEST position and the control power is available, themotor will charge the closing springs. Close the circuitbreaker. Attempt to engage the levering crank to beginmoving the circuit breaker to the CONNECT position. It will first be noticed that the levering crank cannot berotated with the breaker closed. The circuit breakermust be OPEN in order to lever the breaker into thestructure.Once in the CONNECT position, remove the leveringhandle. Ensure that there is no spin-back of thelevering screw, or the breaker will not close (trip free).Close the circuit breaker and the motor will begincharging the closing springs if control power isavailable.Attempt to lever the circuit breaker toward the TESTposition. The levering screw should turn less than 1turn and stop. Open the breaker and move it to theTEST position. Now move the circuit breaker to the DISCONNECTposition. With the circuit breaker in the DISCONNECTposition charge the springs, using the maintenancecharging handle and close the breaker. Now chargethe springs once again. Next pull the shoot bolthandles in, remove the circuit breaker. The circuitbreaker should open-close-open, discharging thestored energy mechanism. The suggested combination of interface checksoutlined in the circuit breaker manual and structuralassembly manual are intended to verify safe andproper operation. If observed conditions are not asdescribed, contact Eaton for assistance.
