Over a periodof time, this lubricant may be pushed out of the way ordegrade. Proper lubrication at regular intervals isessential for maintaining the reliable performance of themechanism. Once a year or every 500 operationswhichever comes first, the circuit breaker should bere-lubricated. The locations shown in Figure 6-1should be lubricated with a drop of light machine oil. After lubrication, operate the circuit breaker severaltimes manually and electricallyRoller bearings are used on the pole shaft, the camshaft, the main link and the motor eccentric. Thesebearings are packed at the factory with top grade slowoxidizing grease which normally should be effectivefor many years. They should not be disturbed unlessthere is definite evidence of sluggishness, dirt or partsare dismantled for same reason. If it becomes necessary to disassemble themechanism, the bearings and related parts shouldbe thoroughly cleaned. Remove old grease in agood grease solvent. Do not use carbontetrachloride. They should then be washed in lightmachine oil until the cleaner is removed. After theoil has been drawn off, the bearings should bepacked with Eaton Grease 53701QB or equivalent.6-12 TROUBLESHOOTING CHART (Continued Next Page)SYMPTOM INSPECTION AREA PROBABLE DEFECTSFails To Close• Control Circuit • Control Power(fuse blown or switch off)• Secondary Disconnects• Motor Cut-off Switch(Poor or burned contacts,Lever not operational)• Terminals and connectors(Poor or burned contacts)• Motor(Brushes worn or commutatorsegment open)• Closing Springs not charged• Mechanism • Pawls(Slipping or Broken)• Ratchet Wheel(Teeth worn or broken)• Cam Shaft Assembly(Sluggish or jammed)• Oscillator(Reset spring off or broken)
