CBC-8000 capacitor bank control descriptionCBC-8000 capacitor bank control installation and operation instructions MN916001EN—October 2018 Eaton.com 9If the control is in Manual or Automatic mode and theREMOTE button is pressed, any trip or close operation thatwas initiated when the control was in Manual or Automaticmode is performed before the control changes to theRemote operating mode.Remote SCADA overrideRemote SCADA override is a special remote control request,to trip or close the capacitor bank. It has a control tablepriority that is higher than all of the other control tablepriorities, except for Manual control.Automatic modeThe Automatic operating mode allows control of thecapacitor bank, based on local conditions, while preventingmanual or remote control of the capacitor bank except whenthe Remote SCADA Override trip or close command is used.Note: The AUTO LED illuminates when the control is inautomatic operating mode.If the control is in Manual or Remote mode and the AUTObutton is pressed, any trip or close operation that wasinitiated when the control was in Manual or Remote mode isperformed before the control changes to Automaticoperating mode. The following automatic control operations are supported:• Seasonal control – Seasonal control allows the control touse a different set of control parameters for two separatecontrol seasons.• Over Voltage Under Voltage control – Capacitor bankcontrol is based on the line voltage measurement andwhether or not it is outside of a configurable Over VoltageUnder Voltage (OVUV) threshold for a configurable periodof time.• Emergency voltage control – Capacitor bank control isbased on the line voltage measurement and whether ornot it is outside of a configurable Emergency OVUVthreshold for a configurable period of time.• VAR control – Capacitor bank control is based on thefundamental kvar measurement and whether or not it isoutside of a configurable threshold for a configurableperiod of time.• Time control – Capacitor bank control is based on thetime of day.• Temperature control – Capacitor bank control is based onthe temperature measurement and whether or not itoutside of a configurable threshold for a configurableperiod of time.• Sensor Input control – Capacitor bank control is based onthe sensor input value and whether or not it is outside of aconfigurable threshold for a configurable period of time.• Current control – Capacitor bank control is based on thesensor input current value and whether or not it is outsideof the current threshold for a configurable period of time.• Neutral current fault control – Monitors the health of thecapacitor bank by using the fundamental neutral currentmeasurement to determine if there is a phase imbalance.A phase imbalance is common when a capacitor’s fuse isblown or when a capacitor switch has failed. If a faultcondition is detected, the control will not perform anycontrol operation.• Neutral current verification – Capacitor bank operation isverified by comparing the fundamental neutral currentmeasurement to a configurable set point.• Communications loss control – If the control does nothear from the master station for a configurable period oftime, the control will allow operations to occur based onlocal metrics.• Adaptive voltage control – Capacitor bank control isbased on a predictive algorithm that determines whetheror not a capacitor bank operation will cause an OVUVcondition or emergency voltage condition. If the resulting control action will place the voltageoutside of the OV, UV, or emergency voltage thresholds, then the CBC rejects the control command.Seasonal controlThe seasonal control feature is used to configure twoseparate seasonal time periods for the following controlmethods:• Voltage control• VAR control• Time control• Temperature controlWhen seasonal control is enabled, each control methodwithin season 1 or season 2 can have a unique set of controlparameters.Over Voltage Under Voltage controlThe Over Voltage Under Voltage (OVUV) control featureallows control of the capacitor bank if the line voltagemeasured by the control is outside of the configurable OVUVthresholds for a configurable period of time.• The control supports the following OVUV thresholds:• Non-seasonal OVUV thresholds – Used when thecontrol performs non-seasonal control.• Seasonal OVUV thresholds – Used when the controlperforms seasonal control.• Comms Loss OVUV thresholds – Used when thecontrol loses communications with the master station.• CVR thresholds – Used when the control performsCVR (Conservation Voltage Reduction) control.• The configurable periods of time that the line voltage mustbe outside of a threshold are the OV track time and UVtrack time, which are in seconds.
