The amount of space that is available for the radiomodem is shown in Figure 40.For a listing of the modems that are recommended for usewith the CBC-8000 control, refer to Radio modems on Page17.A Serial SelectComm module is required for connecting aradio modem to the control. For information on SelectCommmodules, refer to Serial SelectComm module on Page 14.Figure 41 on page 36 is an example of the CBC-8000 controlwith a radio modem installed.The procedure to install a radio modem on a CBC-8000control is described on the next page.Figure 40. Available radio modem mounting space.To install a radio modem on the document holder of a CBC-8000 control as shown in Figure 41:1. Open the door of the control.2. Press the MANUAL button to place the control inManual mode. The control should remain in Manualmode while on site. This prevents the control fromoperating on remote commands or local metrics whilepersonnel are near the capacitor banks.3. Remove power from the control.4. Align the radio modem on the document holder so thatthe warning label is still visible.5. Mount the radio modem to the document holder using#6 x 3/8 inch (M2.9 x 9.5 mm) stainless steel sheetmetal screws.These screws are self-tapping and they do not require apilot hole to be drilled. Torque the screws to no morethan 8 inch-pounds (0.9 newton-meter) to avoid strippingthe document holder material.6. Connect the DB9 communication cable from the radiomodem to DB9 serial connector on the SelectCommmodule as shown in Figure 41.7. Connect the 12 VDC power cable from the radio to theSelectComm module as shown in Figure 41.8. Connect the antenna cable from the radio modem to theantenna as shown in Figure 41.9.
