Installation procedure26 CBC-8000 capacitor bank control installation and operation instructions MN916001EN—October 2018 Eaton.comNote: The CBC-8000 control is grounded through the groundlug located on the bottom of the control. This groundlug is not tied to the neutral side of the control’s inputpower (L2/N). Please make sure that the ground lug istied directly to Earth ground to ensure that the caseand internal components are safely grounded.8. If the control uses a retrofit 8-pin DIN male connector toretrieve 3-phase voltage measurements, currentmeasurements, and neutral current sensing, use acorresponding 8-pin DIN female connector to connectthe additional sensors.Refer to DIN connector options on Page 22 for thesignal assignments for the DIN connector pins.9. Apply power to the control and wait for it to perform adiagnostic test. If the diagnostic test fails, contact yourlocal Eaton’s Cooper Power series representative.10. Open the cover of the control.11. Press the MANUAL button to place the control inManual mode. The control should remain in Manualmode while programming the control on site. Thisprevents the control from operating on remotecommands or local metrics while personnel are near thecapacitor banks.12. Program the control’s clock with the time and date. Thiscan be performed from the front panel (FUNC 064) or byusing the ProView NXG software. When using the frontpanel, the date is entered in MM-DD-YYYY format andthe hour is entered in 24-hour format. Refer to the CBC-8000 capacitor bank control ProView NXG applicationsoftware programming guide (MN916002EN) fordetailed procedures.13. If additional maintenance work needs to be performed inthe primary voltage area, such as closing a fuse orreplacing a switch, follow your utility company’s standardprocedures. For example:a. Press the TRIP button on the control to open thecapacitor bank.b. Verify that the capacitor bank tripped open.c. Open the cutouts on the capacitor bank to disconnectthe capacitor bank from high voltage power.d. Wait a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes, or whatever timeis required by your utility training procedures, for theshunt to bleed off.e. Perform the required maintenance work.f. When the required work is completed, close thecutouts on the capacitor bank to restore high voltagepower to the capacitor bank.g. Press the CLOSE button on the control to close thecapacitor bank.14. When the work is completed, place the control inRemote or Automatic mode by pressing the REMOTE orAUTO button.15. Apply a seal to the control and record the serial numberof the control and other necessary information.Pole mount installationA pole mount bracket is required for pole mount installations.Pole mount brackets are included when ordering a polemount control. As shown in Figure 29, the bracket must beinstalled on the control prior to installing the CBC-8000control on a pole.Figure 29. Pole mount bracket installation.Figure 30.
