Installation procedureCBC-8000 capacitor bank control installation and operation instructions MN916001EN—October 2018 Eaton.com 27Installing the pole mount bracketPerform the following steps to install the pole mount bracketon the control:1. Line up the holes in the pole mount bracket with theholes in the CBC enclosure.2. Secure the pole mount bracket to the CBC enclosureusing the supplied screws.Performing the pole mount installationPerform the following steps to install the CBC-8000 controlon a utility pole:1. Temporarily place the control in the mounting locationand place a mark on the utility pole for the top hole in thepole mount bracket.2. Install a lag bolt into the pole and hang the control on thepole using the top hole in the pole mount bracket.3. Install a second lag bolt into the pole through the lowerhole in the pole mount bracket.4. Install an earth grounding wire from the grounding lug, located on the bottom of the control, to the earthfollowing standard industry practices. The ground resistance should be less than 20 ohmswhen complete. The grounding wire should be 16 gaugeor larger. The recommended best practice is to install a groundingwire from the CBC grounding lug, located on the bottomof the control, to a common ground point at the top ofthe capacitor bank rack. A separate or independentgrounding wire must run from the capacitor bank rack tothe earth following standard industry practices.Note: The CBC-8000 control is grounded through the groundlug located on the bottom of the control. This groundlug is not tied to the neutral side of the control’s inputpower (L2/N). Please make sure that the ground lug istied directly to Earth ground to ensure that the caseand internal components are safely grounded.5. Route the power cable and the control cable from thecapacitor bank junction box to the control.Equipment damage.Do not drill connection holes into the top of the cabinet.Connection holes in the top of the cabinet will allow moistureto seep into the control and damage the components orcause control misoperation.Failure to comply will void the control’s factory warranty. T249.06. If the control includes a standard 5-pin, 7-pin or 14-pinDIN male connector for sensor inputs, use acorresponding 5-pin, 7-pin or 14-pin DIN femaleconnector to connect the power and the control cablewires to the control. If a retrofit 8-pin DIN male connector is included, connect the corresponding sensor cable to the control.Refer to DIN connector options on Page 22 for thesignal assignments for the DIN connector pins.7. Apply power to the control and wait for it to perform adiagnostic test. If the diagnostic test fails, contact yourlocal Eaton’s Cooper Power series representative.8. Open the cover of the control.9. Press the MANUAL button to place the control inManual mode. The control should remain in Manualmode while on site. This prevents the control fromoperating on remote commands or local metrics whilepersonnel are near the capacitor banks.10. Program the control’s clock with the time and date. Thiscan be performed from the front panel (FUNC 064) or byusing the ProView NXG software. The date is entered inMM-DD-YYYY format and the hour is entered in 24-hourformat. Refer to the CBC-8000 capacitor bank controlProView NXG application software programming guide(MN916002EN) for detailed procedures.11. If additional maintenance work needs to be performed inthe primary voltage area, such as closing a fuse orreplacing a switch, follow your utility company’s standardprocedures. For example:a. Press the TRIP button on the control to open thecapacitor bank.b. Verify that the capacitor bank tripped open.c. Open the cutouts on the capacitor bank to disconnectthe capacitor bank from high voltage power.d. Wait a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes, or whatever timeis required by your utility training procedures, for theshunt to bleed off.e. Perform the required maintenance work.f. When the required work is completed, close thecutouts on the capacitor bank to restore high voltagepower to the capacitor bank.g. Press the CLOSE button on the control to close thecapacitor bank.12. When the work is completed, place the control inRemote or Automatic mode by pressing the REMOTE orAUTO button.13. Apply a seal to the control and record the serial numberof the control and other necessary information.Panel mount installationA panel mount bracket is required for surface mountinstallations. The panel mount bracket is not included whenordering a panel mount control. The panel mount bracketmust be ordered separately. As shown in Figure 31, the bracket must be installed on thecontrol prior to installing the CBC-8000 control on a panel.
