Burner flames produceexhaust gases, heat and moisture.Make sure that the kitchen is wellventilated: keep natural ventilationholes open or install a poweredcooker hood that vents outside. If youhave several burners on or use thecooker for a long time, open a windowor turn on an extractor fan. For moredetail see the Installation Instruc-tions.We recommend you read the ‘Gen-eral Safety Instructions’ section ifyou have not used a gas cooker be-fore.We describe some basic guidelineson how to use a gas cooker safely.Gas and Electricity onMake sure that the gas supply isturned on and that the electricity sup-ply is connected and switched on.The cooker needs electricity.Peculiar smellsWhen you first use your cooker it maygive off a slight odour. This shouldstop after a little use.Hotplate BurnersSome models have a glass lid overthe hotplate. If it is not open, lift it upat the front. There is a safety device that cuts offthe gas to the hotplate when the lid isclosed -but don’t use this to turnthe burners off.The drawing by each knob indicateswhich burner that knob controls. Eachburner has a special safety devicethat stops the flow of gas if the flamegoes out.Push in and turn the knob to the largeflame symbol.this instruction covers a range ofmodels with different control knobs -the pictures are only diagramatic.Keep holding the knob pressed in.This lets gas through to the burner.Press the igniter button or light with amatch. Keep pressing the controlknob in for about 10 secondsIf, when you let go of the control knob, the burner goes out, the safety devicehas not held in. Turn off the control tothe off position and wait one minute, then try again this time holding in thecontrol knob for slightly longer.Adjust the flame height to suit by turn-ing the knob. The small flame symbolmarks the lowest setting.Pans and kettles with concave basesor down turned base rims should notbe used.Simmering aids, such as asbestos ormesh mats, are NOT recommended. They will reduce burner performanceand could damage the pan supports. The minimum pan diameter recom-mended is 120mm. The maximumpan base diameter is 250mm, largepans should be spaced well apart. The 3 ring Wok burner (some modelsonly) is designed to provide evenheat over a large area. It is ideal forlarge pans and stir-frying. For heatingsmaller pans the smaller burners maybe more efficient.GriddleThe griddle fits a single pan support, front to back. It is designed for cook-ing food on directly. Don’t use pans ofany kind on it. The griddle surface isnon-stick and metal cooking utensils(e.g. spatulas) will damage the sur-face. Use heat resistant plastic orwooden utensils.
