Readmore about history on page 43.Training with HeartRate ZonesMany cyclists and other athletesare using heart rate zones tomeasure and increase theircardiovascular strength andimprove their level of fitness.What are heart rate zones?A heart rate zone is simply arange of heartbeats per minute(bpm). The five commonlyaccepted heart rate zones arenumbered from 1–5 according toincreasing intensity. Generally,heart rate zones are calculatedbased on percentages of yourmaximum heart rate. See Table 1on page 73 to learn some of theeffects of exercise as your heartrate reaches each of these zonesduring a workout.
