Advanced digital signalprocessing provides specialized surroundmodes that are compatible with virtuallyall types of music software and moviesoundtracks.For the ultimate in sound reproduction,the AVR80 is equipped for digital inputfrom laser disc or CD players with acoaxial digital output, so that the soundreaching the surround processor comesdirectly from the disc.Finally, the AVR80 is prepared for thefuture with provisions for connection tooutboard multi channel (AC-3 and DTS)digital audio decoders.Audio Tape CopyThis receiver is equipped for connectionto two audio recorders (TAPE 1 andTAPE 2) and two video recorders(VCR 1 and VCR 2).For recordings to the audio tape deck orother devices connected to TAPE 1 ,record sources separate from the currentsource may be performed by pressing theTAPE 1 COPY button on the frontpanel.At the first press of the button, a statusdisplay will appear on both the frontpanel display and the on screen videomenus (Figure #8) to remind you whichinput is being routed to the TAPE 1outputs. If SOURCE is displayed asrecord input, the currently selected inputis recorded to both TAPE 1 and TAPE 2.To record a source other than the currentinput, press the TAPE1 COPY button tochange the TAPE 1 record source in thefollowing order:SOURCE‡ FM/AM TUNER‡CD ‡ TAPE 2 ‡ SOURCENOTE: Fundamentally the control systemis programmed to prevent recording froma machine onto itself. That´s whyTAPE 1 will not appear in the TAPECOPY selection list.Press the button until the input you wishto record appears. You may now changethe main listening input without fear ofdisturbing the recording as long as theunit’s power remains on.NOTE: It is not possible to select one ofthe video inputs (VCR 1, VCR 2, LD,AUX) as a direct recording source. Tomake an audio recording of these sourcesselect one as the main input source, andthen use the TAPE COPY button toselect SOURCE.Input sources for being recorded toTAPE 1 may also be selected using theREC OUT SELECTORof the on screenvideo menu system. Follow theinstructions in this Manual, page 28.Video CopyVideo Copy is similar to that for audiorecording, with changes to accommodatethe requirements of recording both anaudio and video source. As with TAPE 1recording it is important to note that theoutput to VCR 1 only is selected with thefront panel switch. The output to VCR 2is always set to the current input source.(Unless that Source is VCR 2, in whichcase the VCR 2 record output is blank.)To select inputs for VCR dubbing use theVCR 1 COPY button Ò on the frontpanel.At the first press of the button, a statusdisplay will appear on both the frontpanel display and the on screen videomenus (Figure #8) to remind you whichinput source is being routed to the VCR 1output.
